Mealdex — Privacy Policy

Mealdex ("the app") is a nutrition-tracking application published by Renaud Perrier (France). Contact: contact@mealdex.app. This policy describes what data the app processes, why, and your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Data we process

• Account. The app creates an anonymous account (a random identifier) — no name, email or password is required to use it.
• Nutrition logs. The meals you log: dish names, nutrition values, portion adjustments, the answers you give to in-app questions, and gameplay data (XP, streaks, discovered cards). Stored to provide the service.
• Meal photos (processing). When you scan a plate or a nutrition label, the photo is sent to our AI provider for analysis and a nutrition estimate is returned. Photos are not used for anything else and are not stored by us at this step.
• Meal photos (optional storage). Only if you enable the "Improve the engine" option in your profile (off by default), your scan photos are stored and used to improve the accuracy of our nutrition estimates. You can turn this off at any time.
• Purchases. If you subscribe, our billing partner processes the transaction; we receive your subscription status, never your payment details.
• Beta waitlist (this website). If you join the waitlist on mealdex.app, we store your email address on our EU host (OVH, France) solely to contact you about Mealdex availability. It is never shared, and deleted on request or once the launch campaign is over.

2. Where your data lives

Your account, logs and stored photos are hosted in the European Union (Supabase, EU region). AI photo analysis is performed with data processing configured for EU residency.

3. Processors we rely on

• Supabase — database, authentication and storage (EU region).
• Google (Gemini API / Vertex AI) — AI analysis of scan photos.
• RevenueCat — subscription status management.
• Google Play — app distribution and payment processing.

4. What we don't do

• We don't sell your data.
• We don't share your photos or logs with advertisers.
• We don't require your identity to use the app.

5. Legal bases

Performance of a contract (providing the tracking service), consent (optional photo storage — revocable anytime in your profile), and legitimate interest (app security, fraud prevention on subscriptions).

6. Retention

Your logs and cards are kept while your account exists. Photos stored under the "Improve the engine" option are kept until you disable the option or request deletion.

7. Your rights

Under GDPR you can request access, correction, portability or deletion of your data, and withdraw consent at any time. You can delete your account and all associated data directly in the app: Profile → "Delete my account and all my data" — meals, cards, XP, streak and photos are erased immediately and permanently. For any other request, email contact@mealdex.app and we will respond within 30 days. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in France: CNIL).

8. Children

Mealdex is not directed at children under 15. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes

We will update this page when the policy changes and indicate the new effective date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
